How to Crash a Valentine's Day Party

I wrote this years ago, when I was single. Being single can be awkward. Thankfully I'm married now. I'm still awkward, but I have a gorgeous, awesome wife so who cares? boom.

The thing that I love about Valentine's Day is it is nothing but conducive to a host of various feelings, awkwardness, infatuation, love, etc. While true love is celebrated, Valentine's Day can largely be what some folks have called "single's awareness day." I think it's a bit funny myself, because don't girls like creativity and random acts of kindness? Valentine's Day is obligatory and not so romantic in my opinion. If you have to show love is it really romantic? Romance is birthed from passion not obligation. Now that I am married, I have changed my mind on this and have concluded that Valentine's Day is a fantastic day. I love celebrating love and any excuse to go out with my girl is fine with me. Anyway, that's a side note. I love Valentine's Day because unless you have a girlfriend or wife or mother or sister you will be taking out then you will most probably end up in one of two awkward positions. Either you will be out with some girl you don't really know and be forced to fumble through awkward conversation as it is Valentine's Day or as I did last night, you could find yourself amongst a group of people that you don't really know that well, if at all, forced to fumble through awkward conversation. Oh how I love walking into a stranger's apartment forced to introduce myself to a group of other relative strangers. What must I do, but eat the food, make general conversation, play a game and then leave as quickly as possible? I love awkward situations though, because they provide me with a nice story to tell whenever I find myself in another awkward situation, which knowing me, will most assuredly be sooner rather than later. What's the moral of the story? When you're feeling awkward, don't worry, just run with it and don't forget to enjoy the food while you're at it!
