Perfectionism, Pressure & Imperfect Parenting

In this episode, I talk to Johnny Farr. Listen as he shares the heart behind his new book "Dad, You Got This. Even If...: A Field Guide for Imperfect Fathers to Lead Their Families with Faith, Courage, and Grace"—a no-fluff, actionable guide for dads who feel the call to be spiritual leaders at home but get held back by fear, doubt, insecurity, or past failures. We dive straight in with the hard sell (I bought it in 60 seconds!), then unpack common dad hurdles: the lie of needing to be perfect to lead, "My kids have seen my worst," "I don't know enough Scripture," "It's too late for older kids," or even stepdad doubts. Johnny opens up about his own imperfections as a dad, the fear of his daughters someday reading the book and seeing where he fell short, and how depending on the gospel daily turns shortcomings into powerful modeling of grace—kids learn Jesus through Dad's real failures, not fake perfection. He tells the moving redemption story of leading his 67-year-old dad to Christ on a fishing trip in Canada, his dad's radical life change, and how that new-believer dad challenged him to write this book for men in discipleship cohorts wanting more for their homes. We cover practical dad life: family screen rules (no phones till 15, chargers in common areas, full monitoring), handling exhaustion so your fruit doesn't rot (self-care, discipline, tag-teaming with your wife), generational shifts in dads stepping up (Malachi 4 heart-turning vibes), and why your voice as dad outweighs any church program or youth group. Johnny shares his vision for the ultimate finish line—not just kids knowing Christ, but daily sanctification and coaching them to make disciples themselves before they leave home. He also talks about his work running discipleship cohorts for men (Accountable Men) and how to get involved. A must-listen for imperfect dads feeling the weight of spiritual leadership, those battling perfectionism or "not enough" lies, anyone wanting practical tools to lead family to Christ through real life, and encouragement that God equips the called—even if you're flawed. Grab the book on Amazon today—it's straight coaching for leading with faith, courage, and grace.

Exploring the Grand Narrative of the Bible

In this episode, I talk to Dr. Scot Keen, Instructor of Bible Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary. Listen as he shares his journey from growing up in southeast Kentucky—nominal church goer, losing his dad at 15 to a brain aneurysm, then drugs and partying—to finding Jesus on a Florida beach through a gospel tract and Christian friends, sparking a deep hunger for God’s Word that led to ministry, Bible college, missions, and recently finishing his PhD at Dallas Theological Seminary.

We cover his intense PhD experience (theological languages, walking 48 miles a week memorizing Scripture for comps, 125k-word dissertation just approved), his testimony, teaching at Ethnos360 Bible Institute for over 20 years, and why the Bible is one unified grand narrative.

He walks through the Story of Scripture: God’s original plan for humanity as image-bearers (Genesis 1–2), the fall and serpent conflict (Genesis 3), the seed promise of a coming Deliverer, building through Abraham, Israel, David’s line, the prophets, and finding its fulfillment in Jesus as the promised Seed and King. We also hit literary structure, how books connect across the Bible, why Old Testament context matters for missions and translation, and how seeing the big picture changes everything (no more random verse-picking).

A must-listen for anyone wanting the Bible’s overarching story, DTS folks, biblical theology fans, or powerful redemption testimonies.
